Buhari Insulted And Threatened Nigerians On His Speech This Morning - Fast9ja

THE PRESIDENT'S MORNING BROADCAST

During his throughly uninspiring six minute broadcast this morning instead of appealing to Nigerians for patience and understanding and instead of apologising to them for the ineptitude and sheer incompetence that his government has displayed over the last 2 years, President Muhammadu Buhari has returned home after 105 days on his sick bed in the United Kingdom and not only insulted Nigerians but also threatened them.

He made no attempt to reach out to the people, to build bridges and to calm the troubled waters in what is clearly a traumatised and divided nation and instead he sought to intimidate and talk down on our people and his perceived enemies.

The President appears to have failed to appreciate the fact that times have changed and that he cannot impose his will on others.

He claims that his views represents the thinking of the majority of Nigerians yet he refuses to accept the idea or acknowledge the legitimacy of a national referendum.

He is meant to be a servant leader and a democratically-elected President and not a military dictator, a Caliph or a King.

If he wants to enhance national unity, which is of course a noble and righteous venture, and if he really wants Nigeria to remain one then he must desist from his dangerous and provocative rhetoric, he must treat all Nigerians like human beings and as equals, he must exhibit a much higher degree of sobriety and accomodation of contrary and dissenting views and he must display far more sensitivity, understanding and restraint in his interactions and discourse with the opposition and those that do not agree with him.

Failing that and without a quick recourse to the devolution of power from the centre and the neat and timely restructuring of what is essentially a fake pseudo-federation and a functional unitary state, the agitation for emancipation will become more pronounced, the various ethnic nationalities in this country will eventually exercise their right of self-determination and our nation will eventually break.

The fault lines are there and they are visible for all to see. We must recognise our differences, acknowledge our fears, concerns and anxieties, sooth frayed nerves, bridge the gap, make the necessary concessions and heal the wounds or we must prepare for the very worse in the not too distant future. That is the way forward and that is the only way to ensure and guarantee lasting peace and unity.

Since the President mentioned the late and reverred Chief Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the Ikemba Nnewi, the former Head of State of the old Biafra and the Eze Gburugburu of the Igbo, in his morning address let me add the following.

If this great man were still alive today to witness what his Igbo people have been subjected to over the last two years under the Buhari administration he would have been the first to insist on Biafra all over again.

And the truth is that Ojukwu, Major Chukwuemeka Kaduna Nzeogwu and the great Zik of Africa, the Owelle of Onitsha, Chief Nnamdi Azikiwe have collectively resurrected in a young lion from the east called Nnamdi Kanu who he must handle with the utmost care.

What the President is unable to grasp and fails to comprehend is this: we are not children, we are not animals and we refuse to be second class citizens.

Simply put we would rather die as free men, standing on our feet and resisting evil, tyranny and subjugation than live as servile slaves and pliant bonded servants with bowed heads and on bended knee.

All Mr. President's sinister and inappropiate talk about "red lines" and his insidious threats of bloodshed and bloodflow cannot change that and neither is anyone intimidated. Such talk is reckless, dangerous, irresponsible and inappropiate.

Worse of all other than saying that every Nigerian has the right to live in any part of the country, which in itself is undoubtedly a welcome and gratifying assertion, he refused to order the arrest or threaten to cage and bring to justice those that gave the Igbo people a chilling quit notice and that have promised to unleash genocide, ethnic cleansing and mass murder on them if they refused to abide by it and leave the north by October 1st..

This strange omission and instructive refusal by Mr. President is unacceptable and it feeds into the narrative that there may well be some kind of frightful hidden agenda unfolding.

It was also a missed opportunity to allay the legitimate fears and genuine concerns of many Igbos and southerners that live in the north.

I sincerely hope that history does not repeat itself in this regard.

Finally the President expressed his concerns about the social media.

The truth is that the internet has always been the nightmare of tyrants and dictators all over the world ever since it came into existence.

This is because it is designed to ensure the free flow of information and to expose their excesses and atrocities.

Now that our President has acknowledged his disdain and hate for this medium we will increase our efforts to make life more difficult for his government through it.

We will keep them on their toes and hold them to account by utilising the social and traditional media all the more. What he wishes to hide shall be made manifest and known to all.

His morning address was shallow, insensitive, uninspiring and divisive and, judging from what I saw, I believe that he should resign, go home and take care of his health.

That would be the best thing that he could do for Nigeria and that would be the best way to enhance national cohesion and unity.

Buhari: "Ojukwu Visited Me In 2003 & We Agreed That Nigeria Must Remain One" - Politics - Fast9ja

Buhari: "Ojukwu Visited Me In 2003 & We Agreed That Nigeria Must Remain One" - Politics - Fast9ja

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to deal with anyone threatening the continued existence of Nigeria as one country.

Buhari said this in an early morning address to Nigerians on Monday to mark his return to the country after 103 days medical vacation in the United Kingdom.

The President returned to the country on Saturday.

In the broadcast on Monday, Buhari said even the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu agreed with him on the need for the country to continue existing as one.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu, then as a Lieutenant Colonel, led the agitation for the creation of Biafra Republic.

This led to a three-year Civil War between 1967 and 1970 in which several Nigerians were killed.

But Buhari in his speech on Monday said Odumegwu-Ojukwu at a meeting over two days and which lasted late into the night in his hometown, Daura in Katsina State, agreed that there was the need to keep Nigeria one.

The President thus advised those fanning the embers of disunity to purge themselves of the tendency or face the wrath of the law.

In 2003 after I joined partisan politics, the late Chief Emeka Ojukwu came and stayed as my guest in my hometown Daura. Over two days we discussed in great depth till late into the night and analyzed the problems of Nigeria. We both came to the conclusion that the country must remain one and united.

Nigeria’s unity is settled and not negotiable. We shall not allow irresponsible elements to start trouble and when things get bad they run away and saddle others with the responsibility of bringing back order, if necessary with their blood.

Buhari handed over to Yemi Osinbajo before he departed for medical vacation to the United Kingdom on May 7. Osinbajo served as acting president while Buhari was recuperating in the UK.

Following his return to the country on Saturday, August 19, the president addressed the nation in a broadcast on Monday, August 21, where he thanked Nigerians for praying for him. Shortly after his broadcast, Buhari transmitted a letter of resumption to the National Assembly, intimating the lawmakers of his return from medical vacation in London.

The governor said Buhari needs time to reflect and restrategise and deliver his campaign promise to Nigerians. In a related development, the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, has urged well-meaning Nigerians to hold former minister, Femi Fani-Kayode and Governor Ayo Fayose accountable for spreading false news about President Muhammadu Buhari's medical condition.

During the duration that President Buhari was in London on medical vacation, Fayose and Fani-Kayode called on the president to resign on the ground that his health condition was critical. Nigeria’s Debt Reaching Critical Levels — NEITI - Politics - Fast9ja

Nigeria’s Debt Reaching Critical Levels — NEITI - Politics - Fast9ja

40% of FAAC disbursements used for debt servicing

ABUJA — The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, NEITI, Sunday, expressed concern over Nigeria’s level of indebtedness, declaring that Nigeria’s debt in relation to revenues appears to have reached critical levels.

Acting Executive Secretary of NEITI, Mr. Waziri Adio,
NEITI, in its latest Quarterly Review, which focused on disbursement from the Federation Accounts and Allocation Committee, FAAC, disclosed that a total of N513 billion was spent on debt servicing by the three tiers in the first quarter of 2017, compared to total disbursements of N1.276 trillion.

It said: “This means that debt servicing took up 40.27 per cent of FAAC disbursement for the first quarter of this year.

“The figure reveals that debt servicing as proportion of total FAAC allocations is generally higher in the first quarter of the year, after which it falls to lower levels.

“Based on this, the figure of 40.27 percent observed in the first quarter of 2017 might be an upper threshold and it would thus be expected that this figure will be lower for the remaining quarters of the year.”

However, the report noted that the Debt Management Office, DMO, is yet to provide data on the figure for the second quarter of 2017.

It added that domestic debt servicing constituted 90 per cent of total debt servicing, explaining that domestic debt servicing consistently outstripped external debt servicing.

According to the NEITI report, in the first quarter of 2015, domestic debt servicing made up over 93 per cent of total debt servicing, while the figure did not change much by the first quarter of 2017 as domestic debt servicing was over 92 per cent of total debt servicing.

Also, the report stated that N760.18 billion was released by the Federal Government to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, paid in two tranches.

According to NEITI, the money represents refunds of over deductions from FAAC allocations to states and local governments used for quick payment of debt relief granted to Nigeria by the Paris Club between 1995 and 2002.

The report disclosed that Rivers received the highest amount of N44.93 billion followed by Delta with N37.61billion and Akwa Ibom N35.98 billion, while Bayelsa got N34.9 billion and Kano state received N31.74 billion respectively.

It added that the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja received the lowest amount of N2.05 billion.

NEITI further acknowledged the fact that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, had completed the refund of N450 billion owed the Federation Account, as a result of portions of domestic crude receipts withheld by the Corporation from November 2004.

It noted that this followed the implementation of a payment schedule worked out between the Corporation and the Federation Allocation Accounts Committee.

It said: “From the NNPC debt refund which commenced since 2011, a total of N206.242 billion was paid to the Federal Government, N151.446 billion to the 36 states and FCT, while the 774 local governments collectively received N92.311 billion.”

Furthermore, NEITI disclosed that the three tiers of government, including federal, states and local governments, shared N2.788 trillion between January and June this year, a 38 per cent increase on the N2.019 trillion shared in the first half of 2016.

Out of $2.788 trillion disbursed in the first half of 2017, it said the Federal Government received N1.09 trillion, 36 state governments received N923 billion, while N549.8 billion went to 774 local governments in the country.

“ A further breakdown shows that total releases to the three tiers of government was N430.16 billion in January; N514 billion in February; N496.40 billion in March; N418.82 billion in April; N418.82 billion in May; and N462.36 billion in June,” NEITI stated.

It said the review was based on data obtained by NEITI at the meetings of FAAC and data from National Bureau of Statistics, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Federal Ministry of Finance and the Debt Management Office.

It added that its interest in providing timely information and data on the FAAC allocations to the three tiers of government was in line with its mandate to monitor and enthrone transparency in the management of extractive industry revenues.

“NEITI’s is also interested in the FAAC disbursements in view of the fact that over 70 per cent of the funds involved are derived from the extractive sector,” it argued.

Nurse Stabs Husband To Death In Lagos - Crime - Fast9ja

Nurse Stabs Husband To Death In Lagos - Crime - Fast9ja

Mrs. Folashade Idoko, an auxiliary nurse has been accused of stabbing her husband to death in Lagos.

The incident occurred on Sunday at their residence located at 20, Kosoko Street, Ayetoro, Oto-Awori local government area of the state.

The Nation gathered that the deceased had suffered years of domestic violence from his wife but kept quiet.

The couple had two children – a three-year-old boy and one-year old girl.

Neighbours and their landlord confirmed the several years of domestic abuse the 32-year-old Lawrence Idoko suffered from his wife.

A source said Sunday’s attack was triggered by jealousy from the nurse, who accused her husband of infidelity.

The source said the deceased, a pipeline engineer with Greater Inspection and Industrial Services at Sango-Otta, Ogun State, was away on official assignment for a week at Ikorodu.

She said: “He returned and his wife accused him of having extra-marital affair. She stabbed him in the leg with a sharp knife. When his three-year-old son’s cries alerted neighbours, he had bled heavily. He died about an hour after he was rushed to a nearby New Ayetoro Medical Centre.”

But Mrs. Idoko, a native of Kwara State, who has been arrested by policemen at Ijaniki, claimed the knife fell on her husband by accident.

A neighbour, Mrs. Blessing Olokpobri, who expressed sadness over the man’s death, confirmed the woman’s bad treatment of her deceased husband.

“Their history of violence was known to everybody in the neighbourhood. Even on January 1, they fought. There was a time she went to drag him and stripped him Unclad from a beer parlour around here and beat up an elderly neighbour. There was even a time she sliced his ear lobes with a broken bottle and it had to be stitched,” she said.

The deceased’s landlord, Chief Gani Akanni, who rushed him to the hospital, said he issued a quit notice to the couple because of their incessant fights but changed his mind after other tenants pleaded on their behalf.

Akanni, who’s the Balogun of Ayetoro, said: “There was a time I took the woman to the police station because she vandalised my property after I locked up the tenants’ rooms for defaulting in payment of Lagos Waste Management Agency (LAWMA) bills. She went ahead to break the door. It was unfortunate because the husband is such a quiet and peaceful man.”

Idoko’s aunt confirmed his death, describing it as unfortunate.

She said: It was unfortunate that spousal abuse is still prevalent and that it continues to take a toll on partners, either male or female. She My nephew, like many men and women who die daily in violent relationships, would have been alive had they fled such deadly arrangements in the name of marriage.

“We, the family, will ensure that justice is done. This is another young and promising life deliberately cut short and this wickedness will not go unpunished.

“We would have intervened one way or the other but he hid the entire violent scenario from us. Persons suffering domestic violence should always call out for help. It was indeed a big tragedy for us.”
